14 DAYS OF LOVE - DAY #9

Day 9.  Only 5 more to go on the countdown.  Are you keeping up?  If not, no worries.  Everything we do art Artful Journeys is at your own pace. No pressure, no deadlines.  This is supposed to be fun, so relax and go with flow.

Today we have a prompt, and an alternate for you.

PROMPT #9 - Journal in a negative heart space.

ALTERNATE:  Depict your "best" or "favorite" Valentine's Day Memory

MELODY ELZY - I did this prompt in my small Dylusions journal. I started with a base coat of gesso scraped on with an old gift card, then penciled in my heart. Using a round brush and black gesso, I outlined the heart. Then I grabbed my small Dina Wakley brush, and my Liquitex Basics acrylics in Titanium White and Alzarian Crimson, and began applying the two in horizontal and vertical strokes all around the heart. My quote is, "Your weirdness will make you stronger. Your dark side will keep you whole. Your vulnerability will connect you to the rest of our suffering world. Your creativity will set you free. There is NOTHING wrong with you. -AndrĂ©a Balt

TAMIE RODRIGUEZ WILSON - I glued some tissue paper hearts onto my index card. Used a micron black pen to write "You Are My Sunsine" in the hearts.

LYNN JACKSON - it says..  Roses are red. It's simple, never lie to someone who trust you, and never trust someone who lies to you.

This is just on a piece of Canson mixed media paper with a little lime green in the background and pink painted hearts on the bottom. Thanks for looking.

BETTY RICHARDSON - Recall that I did a bunch of journaling in a negative heart space already for Day #4, that I covered with a large heart and brad making a "cover" over my journaling.  ------------------>>

So for today's prompt, I tried to incorporate solid and negative space hearts, and remember a very special Valentine's Day.

Working in my Graphique pocket journal, I scraped on a very thin coat of white gesso, followed by 2-3 coats of Bright Magenta craft acrylic. While wet, I used the edge of the plastic card to score some lines in the paint revealing the white gesso underneath. Lettering with bold, black Signo Uniball pen. Acrylic stamps by Inkadinkadoo.  The date inscribed in the negative space hearts was indeed a very special Valentine's Day for me. My husband actually thought outside the box and made it a really special day. Some personal journaling will follow.

14 Days of Love - Day #2

Today's prompt for our 14 Days of Love journey is to create a predominately red background using a palette knife or other scraping type tool (plastic card, credit card, icing spreader, spatula, etc) and create a journal page using this background if you so desire, expressing love in some form or fashion.

You don't have to create a journal page. Perhaps you want to create a freestanding piece of art on watercolor paper, bristol or cardstock.  Maybe you want to create a smaller work to include on a journal page later, like an ATC, a postcard, etc.  Whatever you choose is fine.

Betty Richardson - I created this page in my Artful Journey journal that is a Canson Mixed Media wirebound journal.  I used Liquitex Basics Acrylics in 3 different shades of red and also included some craft paints in assorted shades of pink.  All scraped on with a well loved and used-up gift card.  There are several layers of paint that really don't show up that well in this photograph, but the finish has a wonderful texture to it when you rub your hand over it.  Smooth in some places, rough in others. I like that!

All around the edges are the word "love" written in every "foreign" language I could get onto those edges using a Micron pen.  Hearts were stenciled with Diva Pink craft acylic and Liquitex Titanium white.  I have this lovely Stampin' Up background stamp called "Le London Script" that I stamped onto the backgound in a few places with Staz-On ink.  Other doodles and words were done with  bold, white and black Signo Uniball pen and a black Sharpie marker.  Lettering inspired by the work of Lindsay Ostrom.

Thanks for looking!  Hope I have inspired you in some way to create some magic and some love today!

TAMIE WILSON

Today Tamie did a quickie on an Index card. First she stamped some assorted hearts all over the card, and then scraped on a red acrylic background.  This is a great base upon which to "just add more" and then tip into her journal.    The lines of the index card showing through really adds dimension and a base for some "love" journaling.

MELODY ELZY

The first is in my large Dylusions journal. I used Liquitex basics in Cadmium red deep hue, golden fluid in quin Crimson, Liquitex basics in white and Quin magenta. The bottom layer was applied with a spatulas AND a palette knife. The separate smudges of color were made with a spatula and an old gift card was used for the "lines".

LYNN JACKSON

I used a 6x6 piece of card stock and stamped some words on it then took the palette knife and scraped flag red across it. Took a stencil and stamped in the white hearts and the icons. The word stickers are from Theresa Collins. I am really enjoying the 14 Days of Love prompts.  What's not to love??

On the index card divider I used my palette knife to apply the first layer and the smudges the white on with my spatula. I also used my gift card to apply some lines to this one. There's no pink on the index card divider.
